I had a great time when I was in Malaysia, and it was a real eye-opener when it comes to a lot of things, especially international dating.

Malaysia is a country of pomelo and mamak stores, but what about some sexy Malaysian men?

There are plenty of Malaysian men stereotypes, but I’m here to break some of those and give you the whole truth based on my experience.

What are Malaysian Men Like?

Well, this isn’t a question that we can answer in just a couple of sentences because we can’t just generalize all the guys in this country.

But, we can still rate them based on some of the basic categories that are important in a man.

So without further ado, let’s answer the question:

What are Malaysian men like?

Physical appearance

Firstly, Malaysian people are Asian, so they have certain characteristics that make them look similar to some other Asian nationalities.

You might not be able to see these differences at first if you’re not Asian and this has something to do with the cross-race effect. This is a tendency that most people have: it’s just easier to recognize faces that you’re more familiar with or those that belong to your race.

However, this is just like a skill that you can easily hone.

Malaysian males can have a skin color that varies from fair to darker, but there are more of them with a darker complexion, just as many Southeast Asian people do.

Also, like other Asian people, typical Malaysian men have dark oblong eyes, and having light-colored eyes is considered rare.

Their hair is usually dark or almost black, and they have flat noses.

A thing that Malaysian guys lack the most in is their height.

Unfortunately for American women looking for Malaysian men, most of them aren’t going to be as tall as you would like, with an average height of a Malaysian man at 5 foot 5 inches.

However, their height can also vary, and there are still some tall and handsome Malaysian men, but they’re rare.

Lastly, unlike their Korean neighbors, Malaysian men don’t have slimmer bodies and are more averagely built.

Style

I’m going to have to be completely honest here.

I think that Malaysian men don’t even know what style is.

They absolutely love wearing their sandals or flip flops, sometimes even with socks on! It looks awful!

There are some exceptions, but they’re too rare.

Character Traits of Malaysian Men

So, Malaysian men don’t really prove to be the best when we look at them from the outside, but in the end, that’s not what matters.

Dating Malaysian men is more than just their lack of style.

What are Malaysian guys like in relationships?

I have some information that I can share with you about that.

1. Gentleman rating

Malaysia is a mostly conservative country because the majority of its population is Muslim.

This is why gender roles are clearly defined, although less than before.

However, men are still expected to be perfect gentlemen when it comes to going out with ladies, and they live up to that expectation.

Dating a Malaysian guy means that you are going to get absolutely spoiled in every way possible.

They will open doors for you, pull out your chair, and pay the bill, because that’s just the Malaysian dating culture.  

All in all, there are exceptions, but most men believe that they should act like this.

I would say that Malaysian men in bed also act like gentlemen, but the truth is that their conservative society frowns upon anything like that before marriage.

2. Integrity

Unfortunately, most Malaysian men that I’ve met gave of a vibe of a guy that you can manipulate however you want to.

They for sure lack the assertiveness that every normal woman would want in man, and they let some girls walk over them so much that it’s embarrassing to watch.

They love and respect their family, but they care about their opinion too much if you ask me.

It’s great that you’re close with your family, but you shouldn’t let them control every aspect of your life.

3. Honesty

I got to give it to them, typical Malaysian guys are honest.

They won’t lie to you about anything serious, and if you ask them an important question you’ll get an honest and clear answer.

However, they for sure won’t tell you everything and sometimes you might have to question them thoroughly before getting the answer to the question.

4. Loyalty

As in any country, there are going to be some exceptions to this, but most Malaysian guys are completely loyal to their significant other.

So, no worries, your Malaysian boyfriend will be just yours!

Their views are conservative, but most men would still even forgive their partner for cheating.

So at least we can say that Malaysian guys in bed are loyal.

5. How protective are they?  

Honestly, I don’t really know how to answer this one.

On one side, Malaysian men are great and will protect you from other people, but to some extent.

As I mentioned before, they lack the assertiveness, so if it was their family who has something bad to say about you, it’s a question whether he’ll react at all.

Also, they tend to get over-dramatic and jealous over nothing, but at least they don’t like having long and tiresome fights about it.

I still met some hot Malaysian guys that seemed normal, but the majority was as described above.

6. Are they resourceful?

Well, in comparison to some Western countries, I can’t exactly say that dating Malaysian guys will make you a rich housewife, but they still have enough for a person to spend in Malaysia.

However, they’re resourceful in other departments, like housework.

Dating a Malaysian man means that you’ll never have to hire a professional to fix something.

Also, they’re usually amazing cooks. There’s nothing better than sexy Malaysian guys in the kitchen.

7. Maturity

Unfortunately, some Malaysian guys that I met were so immature that I couldn’t even look at them.

They show you that they like you by acting like they’re in middle school, and they couldn’t hold a thoughtful and intelligent conversation even if their life was on the line.

You can really see this when they complain about being “friend-zoned”, even though it’s usually their fault.

8. Self-confidence

I’ve met plenty of hot Malaysian men during my time there, but most of them had a big problem: they didn’t know how to ask a woman out.

I don’t know if this is connected to their immaturity or lack of integrity, but the situation for most single Malaysian men is dire.

I Malaysian friend of mine told me that she had a friend who liked her for years, and everybody knew that because it was so obvious and still, he never asked her out.

Except for some of them, Malaysian men lack the confidence that women like.

9. Are they friendly or reserved?

Despite their lack of confidence and the fact that they’re conservative, Malaysian people are extremely friendly, especially towards foreigners.

I didn’t have any trouble while I was visiting Malaysia and I met some people that I’ll stay in touch with for the rest of my life.

I know that international dating can be hard and that Malaysian men make it harder because they’re so insecure, but at least you will get to know them as friends for a while before you choose to go any further.

Pros

1. They want to get to know you before dating

When you first meet Malaysian men chances are that they won’t immediately ask you to go out with them even if they’re the confident and mature type.

This is because Malaysian people, in general, prefer to get to know the person that they want to date before getting into a relationship with them.

Additionally, you should know that for them when you start “dating” you’re actually starting a relationship.

2. They’re loyal

One of the best things about Malaysian dating culture is the fact that Malaysian men are so loyal, both physically and emotionally.

They believe in trust and communication between the two people who are in a relationship, and they won’t go around sleeping with other women.

This is also connected to their conservatism, and they are used to having just one partner during their life.

Well, at least most of them won’t.

3. Amazing cooks

Trust me, you will want some handsome Malaysian guys in the kitchen.

Honestly, I don’t know where they get it from, but for some reason, a lot of Malaysian guys that I’ve met were actual gods in the kitchen.

1. Not assertive enough

As I mentioned before, Malaysian guys have a real problem when it comes to assertiveness.

I’ve witnessed some of them act like slaves to their girlfriends, or even taking no action at all when they’re in front of the girl that they like.

And I’m sorry, but this the worst attribute that a man can have.

Of course, too much assertiveness is bad, but it’s nice to have a guy who doesn’t let people trample all over him whenever they can.

2. Not stylish

If you were hoping to meet some hot Malaysian guys dressed to the nines, you’re in for a disappointment.

As I mentioned before, his naturally warm country is filled with guys who seem like they don’t care about the way that they look but some of them still think that they can get any girl they want.

3. They’re predictable

You were hoping for an exotic adventure? Pause. You can only pick one of those things. And it won’t be an adventure.

Besides being conservative, Malaysian guys are also the most predictable and boring bunch ever.

Truthfully, there’s no reason for you to do this and almost all Malaysian people are fluent in English and you guys will communicate just fine with it.
