I can’t lie and say I was surprised by all the Swiss men stereotypes I’ve heard over the years, even before dating them. That’s why my job today is to share with you which of them are true and which ones are lies.

While almost every American would say that Swiss men are too cold and rude, this is not entirely true. They are a bit difficult to get to know, and they don’t usually open up unless they can trust you, but once they do, they are very sweet and kind guys.

Physical Appearance

I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of hot Swiss men in your lifetime since it’s really easy to find handsome Swiss guys. They are a really good-looking nation, and their physical appearance leaves the majority of girls speechless.

I remember my first night out in a club in Switzerland. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the number of hot guys I saw there. Even though they were extremely shy, they were still super-hot and real eye candies.

While they can’t be generalized and recognized by blond hair and blue eyes as Finns and Swedes, the majority have brown hair and green or brown eyes. I noticed that they usually have very good and strong hair even when they are older.

What I found attractive the most were their dreamy eyes and look that they have. We already know how hot and attractive Roger Federer is, the rest of the Swiss guys are equally sexy!

They tend to have an average height, and they stay thin even when they’re older since they are very active and enjoy sports and outdoor activities. That’s why Swiss guys stay hot for a really long time and seem youthful.

Style

I have to admit that I was a bit shocked when my first Swiss date showed up in what I consider to be business attire on our first dinner date. I’ve realized very soon that they care about their appearance very much.

That’s why it’s almost unacceptable to go out in sweatpants or not to look sharp when in public. I found this extremely overwhelming and couldn’t get used to it for a long time, especially after dating Finns and Austrian guys that are so casual and relaxed.

The reason why Swiss guys care so much about how they look and what they wear is probably their perfectionism in everything they do, fashion included.

You should be aware that, while dating a Swiss man, you’ll need to take care of your appearance as well. Say goodbye to dressing too casual or not having clean hair when going out, it will really be a turn off for typical Swiss guys.

Many of my girlfriends have been wondering what are Swiss men like from my point of view because I’ve met and dated a few of them. 

I’ll tell you the same thing I told them – dating Swiss men is, overall, an unusual experience, or at least it was for me. There were a lot of things I liked but also a bunch of them that didn’t sit well with me.

Let’s talk about the most important character traits that Swiss guys have, and I’ll also share Swiss men dating tips that can help your relationship last.

1. Gentlemen rating

Even though Swiss guys are very kind and they make sure you feel good when you’re with them, they aren’t really famous for being gentlemen in a way that the majority of women are used to.

It’s important to point out that gender equality is a completely normal thing there. While that’s, obviously, a very positive thing, Swiss guys (just like Finns) aren’t used to paying for dinner or opening doors to the ladies, because they don’t think it’s necessary.

Another thing that may be a bummer for American gals is that Swiss men don’t appreciate the public display of affection. So, one of the first tips for dating a Swiss man would be not to be too pushy and clingy when it comes to hugging and kissing in public because they really hate it.

While they don’t mind being exclusive right away and presenting you as their “girlfriend” to friends and family, you probably can’t expect too much hand-holding or kissing and hugging in public.

Swiss guys are very proud of their national identity and point out where they’re from right away. 

The rest of the world mostly knows about Swiss chocolate, cheese, political neutrality, and rich banks, and Swiss guys are aware of the excellent reputation their country has from the economic aspect.

They usually don’t like dating more than one person, but he’s most likely to be fine with it as long as you’re open and honest from the beginning.

Once you meet Swiss guys better and they open up a bit, you’ll realize that they are usually very honest about the important things considering your relationship. That’s why they prefer it if you’re honest with them, too, especially when it comes to dating multiple people at the same time.

While your Swiss guy probably won’t either compliment nor critique you for your hair, makeup, or anything else related to your appearance (even though he’ll notice), he’ll be very open and tell you his honest opinion on the more important matter.

5. How protective they are?

Swiss men may not seem very confident when it comes to flirting, but they sure are aware of their ability to protect their partner. So, even if they don’t look overly protective, you can rest assured you’ll feel secure with your boyfriend.

While their education and the way they’re usually raised doesn’t allow them to jump into fights and arguments, they will be there to protect you when needed. 

Sometimes it will be necessary to tell him you want his protection because they may seem a bit confused at first. But once you seek his support, you’ll get it for sure.

6. Are they resourceful?

Is there really anyone who doesn’t know about the fantastic Swiss standard? I don’t think so! Your Swiss sweetheart will be not only handsome but also very resourceful.

Their perfectionism doesn’t allow them to be half-productive at work, and they always strive to earn more in order to provide a better life for their family.

If you marry a Swiss guy, you’ll live very well and always have enough for more than a decent life. Be aware that women are also expected to work and provide for the family since they do believe in gender equality. 

7. Maturity

After everything I’ve told you so far, this one is more than obvious. Being extremely professional at work, punctual and responsible towards family and friends, and extreme perfectionists, Swiss men are one of the most mature nations, in my opinion.

Even though for my taste, they are a bit too up-tight, I have to give them credit where credit’s due, and maturity is one of their strongest traits.

This fact is very important if you’re someone who prefers serious relationships and supportive, strong, and responsible partners you can lean on. Swiss guys will be exactly that! What a breath of fresh air compared to Latino guys, really!

8. Self-confidence

Even though typical Swiss men are very attractive, they are timid and insecure when it comes to flirting. They are really bad at it. 

So even though they may seem confident when it comes to posture and style, they’re actually afraid of making the first step and can’t flirt. Even hot Swiss guys find it difficult to initiate the conversation with women they like, which is a shame.

As the main reason, they blame the fact that Swiss women always turn them down. I really don’t understand why that’s the case because every Swiss guy I met was very sexy and kind. I suppose the girls there prefer more exotic guys like Arabs or Indians but to each their own. 

However, their shyness is only initial. Once they get comfortable, Swiss men in bed are real animals! As a matter of fact, they are considered to be the best nation when it comes to sex.

9. Are they friendly or reserved?

The rumors about Swiss guys being reserved is probably true, at least from my experience. Every Swiss boyfriend I had was very distant at first. The first time they meet someone, all they do is offer a handshake, and they are usually very quiet around new people.

You’ll probably meet Swiss men through a mutual friend, and they will seem really distant at first. Be patient, though, because they may be shy and quiet at the beginning, and they do need a lot of time to open up, but once they do, it means they trust you. 

The main reason that they are so cold at first is the fact that they usually have trust issues and need time to build some sort of relationship with you before they can completely open up.

I think you should know that Swiss people believe in equality of the sexes, so the chances of you being relegated for being a woman in a relationship is very low.

All handsome Swiss men have their advantages and disadvantages, which is to be expected from every nation, no matter how hot the males are. That’s why it’s important to be informed before you decide for yourself whether or not a certain nationality is a right fit for you.

Keep in mind, though, as your girlfriend Amy has already told you multiple times, international dating is a tricky thing, and we can’t really generalize because every individual is different.

However, I am here to speak from my experience and talk about the typical single Swiss guys. 

Pros

1. They are punctual

This is a very nice trait in general. Of course, if you are usually late, it can be a bit overwhelming for you. Still, it could also be a nice way of improving this aspect of your life because let’s admit it, punctuality is always a good thing to have.

Trust me, I’ve been there. I used to be late to almost everything, and I really hated it because it got me in trouble more than once. Dating a Swiss guy has made me realize the importance of being punctual, and I’ve managed to improve this flaw.

2. They love nature

It’s impossible not to be a nature lover while living in a country as beautiful as Switzerland. Your Swiss guy will want to spend time outdoors whenever it’s possible, and I personally find that very attractive.

I enjoyed hiking with all of my Swiss partners, and those were usually the occasions when they were more relaxed and happier than indoors.

1. The style

I know that this one is individual, but I really dislike the conservative, up-tight men style. Seriously, what’s the point of looking sharp all the time and torturing yourself in a suit even when the job doesn’t require that attire?

Maybe it’s just me, but their fashion style makes them seem even more strict and cold, and perhaps that’s why the rest of the world would make assumptions about that. 

I wish Swiss would loosen up a bit and realize that it’s not the end of the world if they went on a date in ripped jeans and a plain shirt. It would actually be more casual and help the date to be smoother!

2. They aren’t very romantic

This one is such a shame! Swiss guys are loyal and respectful partners, I just wish they were a tad more romantic. The lack of romance was the main reason why all of my relationships with Swiss men ended.

Swiss dating culture is so strange for Americans. Other than not displaying any sort of emotions and closeness in public, they very rarely do it in private, too. 

It’s still challenging for me to wrap my head around the fact that they are excellent lovers and so fantastic in bed, but when it comes to cuddling on the sofa while watching a movie, they almost never want to do it.
